Surrey Council spends 456k Tax on Website - Posted By Sam (sam) on 1st Sep 10 at 3:32pm
What does everyone think about Surrey Council spending 456 thousand pounds on a it's own website? To me it does sound very expensive as this site was created for around £20,000. How would you all like that money to be spent?

Do you have any links for the website for us to have a look as that is a sillly amount of money to spend on a website. Unless they are talking about the people they employ for the site as running a website doenst cost allot of money at all!

WOW, That way too much money! You could get a Chelsea player to play 2 games of football for that much money!

Some people say that certain government departments have a budget to spend, so they just find ways to spend all of it. I do hope the council spends our hard earned money more prudently next time.

Well, It's a complex website, but still I can't believe how much it cost.
For example look on my site: it cost me £700 and I'm managing it myself, so no extra cost...
So what are they spending those money on?

The spending includes £8,000 on 'Parent Know How' directory, £7,495 on travel and traffic information, £20,573.41 on third party testing/maintenance software and an astonishing £48,000 on online recruitment software. Being a user generated website here at Surrey-Online.CO.UK (SOL), we are not financed by Surrey County Council.

I personally don't agree that this money should've been spent unless it maximizes administritavie capabilities... inwhich case it could end up saving the tax payer money..
