Crime increases in crisis time. This is historically proved rule.
Are we going to witness more and more robbery, pickpocketing and other crimes on our streets?
Lets face it - Surrey my generate some imported crime from London in particular if the economic situation will get worst
What is your opinion about this are we ready for imported crime?
Please let us know what you witnessed and experienced in your local community?

I was out last saturday night with some friends of mine in Kingston after a night of clubbing and we witnessed someone showing a very large knife as he walked past. We were waiting outside Specsavers where the taxis stop off, and we were pretty shocked by what we saw. I think he was just 'showing off' - since knives are aparently "cool" these days... {Unsure}  what has gotten into these kids minds? knife crime is something that particularly worrys me as i enjoy clubbing and staying out late with friends but some people have to ruin it by making everyone else around them feel so vulnerable. we did report the incident to a passing police officer later that night and it was investigated but with no evidence and the man long gone, nothing could be found.

Thanks aj999 for the first comment. I believe this is a real issue in Kingston, Richmond, Woking, Guildford and Other Clubbing Towns. Shall we than ask club owners to introduce metal detectors as we understand bouncers are unable to deal correctly with knifes?

People what you are talking about? Compare Surrey to other areas in the country and you will see that there is no big crime problems here.

Hello Guys,
Maybe Surrey is a safe place at this moment but founds for Surrey Police has been cut second year in the row. Today in the morning chief inspector said that due to increase of founds in Greater London Surrey currently is a main target for traveling troublemakers around 50% of the crime reported in Surrey is caused by London living trouble makers as it is easier and less risky for them to commit the crime here in Surrey than in well guarded London.
Cheers

 You are lucky guy Andy
Over five years:
- 2 stolen bicycles (protected or on the property with CCTV - during infamous SWT station rides hundreds of bikes were stolen 2003-2004) - both thefts caught prosecuted both bikes lost forever.
Smashed mirrors in my car (about 20 other cars that day had also this problem on this same street) - £50 each mirror - no one caught
- One baseball bat on my back while cycling along the road (I was lucky they went on the ride that day 5 other bikers and moped drivers hit - one badly hurt with injury for life) - 3 bandits caught prosecuted

Maybe it is just me {Confused}

I think there are problems everywhere in the uk. surrey has its reputation for being posh and desirable to live in but there are high areas of deprivation.  I would not want to walk around the streets of any of the major towns at night for fear of disprespecting some youth with a knife. thats all you hear on the news. shootings and stabbings. and mps expenses lol.

I livein lightwater which is safe. you have your chav element but they dont look like they are going to kill you. i'm sure pubs and clubs breed insanity - you only have to watch the police/ambulance documentaries to see the differences in areas at night. there was a police prog on a while ago (still being repeated on sky) in guildford and all the problems were around the clubs.

what can we do to fix it? police dont have either the manpower or capability to stop the behaviour. {Sad}

It was good to hear that the government threatened to cap the police budget again! I never heard wherther they went ahead or not though.

I got a conservative leaflet through the door the other day. In order to tackle anti-social behaviour they propsed to introduce community wardens/officers. At first I was rather skeptical as to whether they would be respected and make a difference but apparently they have already done a good job in dispersing yobs around Frimley green (or so my mum says!!). Do you think community officers can help make a difference to the behaviour?

From the point of view of a teenager living in Surrey:

I go out in the evenings to big towns. I go walking around my local village in the middle of the night with no protection. Even with the couple of other youths that I could potentially feel threatened by, I don't.

The reason being is that though I'm a law abiding citizen. I don't even drink so I can't be done for drink driving, I feel like I'm packed together with the teenagers that do cause this trouble. Who am I packed together by? The Police. I feel more threatened seeing a Police officer driving by or walking in the opposite direction than I do seeing a youth brandishing a knife.

I've had a knife drawn on me before and I know that there are ways with dealing with those kinds of people (non violently), but how do you deal with the police when "they're right and you're wrong"? When you get the odd looks, the searches and the questions. When you're put anyway into the same category as the other teenagers. A threat.
