Swim the length of the English Channel for charity - Posted By Deryck Svensson (deryck) on 25th Aug 09 at 11:20am
Can you swim the length of the English Channel in two hours? Don't worry, not on your own!
A former Rydens student, is organising a swimathon to raise money for Cancer Research. Siobhan Willox, only 23 years old, is putting people into teams to swim the length of the English channel - 200 miles- between them in two hours. For those who are less confident about the long distance, Siobhan will help them set their own personal challenge.
As a former swimmer and trained swimming teacher herself, Siobhan said "I wanted it to be something challenging but for a good cause".
"A lot of the people already signed up to do it are ex-swimmers, but obviously it i a long distance so I thought having teams would make it more manageable for those who wanted to take part".
The event, called Swim For Life, will take place at the Xcel Leisure Centre in Waterside Drive, Walton on September 19th.
The Noble Vine, in Walton High Street, is kindly sponsoring the event by paying for the pool hire.
