A Romantic-Comic Opera in Four Acts
by Friedrich von Flotow. For this production of Martha by Friedrich von Flotow, we are spreading our wings and co-producing the opera with Northampton Festival Opera. Tom Hawkes, who produced The Bohemian Girl in February 2008 to much acclaim, is returning for 2009. As he is also producing Martha for Northampton Festival Opera, he suggested we combined the production. Martha will be staged in January in Northampton and in February in Haslemere. The soloists and production team will be shared, but each company will use its own chorus and orchestra. Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera House combine in a similar way, so we are in good company!
