Sutton Town Centre Changes (15th Jun 09 at 2:34pm UTC)
planning of sutton town centre changes
Sutton Council has got big plans to help make Sutton town centre a more attractive place. The idea is to try and make things safer, more diverse and welcoming, the plans should hopefully make the town much more accessible as I've personally found it quite a complicated town to drive into on my recent a journey there. A rather ambitious action plan includes proposals to build shopping, leisure facilities and new homes/offices over the next 15 years. There's already been a consultation period that took place from the end of April to the begining of June, and over the last 20 or so months the council have been talking to resisdents and businesses.. However it would still be nice to hear other peoples ideas and thoughts for Sutton's future, so if you have anything to share please go ahead! {Smile}

The plan so far is an interesting one! They are going to be creating distinctive quarters. The village quarter, the exchange quarter, the civic quarter & the station quarter, which all makes good sense to me and having read through the leaflet I picked up I'm quite looking forward to seeing the progress of the development over the next decade or so.

Although in these times one does wonder if the money spent here will be put to use in the most cost efficient and benificial way because my worry is that people will be so blinded by the current financial problems that the importance of a greener future could be overlooked slightly. But I'm sure this is something that Sutton council would have already considered very carefully and with mention of more open spaces, hundreds of new trees and the 'greening' of the one-way road system, it seems like they are doing a decent job of keeping the environment a priority and so lets hope it will remain that way. {Cheesy}
