Woolworths Replacements
(Posted On: Thu 30th Apr 2009 at 12:30)
Hello one and all,

Following the news topic displayed on Surrey-Online I am asking for anyone who has taken an interest in what is happening to their old Woolworths store in their local town to express their opinion on the future of these now vacant stores.

(Also, just to bring this into the discussion - did you know? A section of Woolworths are looking to relaunch as an online trader this summer - your thoughts and opinions?

I bet Woolworths could sell quite well online but something definately needs to be done with the empty stores. Although i personally like the fact that nothing has been done with them yet {Tongue Out} for some reason its just nice to walk down the highstreet and see the classic red and white of Woolworths, its kinda become a historic landmark in most towns now lol. {Cheesy}

I only know of a few replacements - for instance H&M are taking over in Croydon.

I think quite a few companies were quite interested in taking over the pic n mix range. I know at least one Tesco in Berkshire are selling the 'Candy King' range. I think pic n mix should go back to the newsagents and the days of 5p a lolly and 2p a cola bottle {Cheesy}

Ive heard that in woking Primark are taking over the M&S and Woolworths stores so they can have a 2 level shop in Peacocks centre so there is another one gone. In Camberley Peacocks the clothes shop had moved in upstairs at woolies (previously occupied by c&a!) and then they had to go because woolies went under. not sure who's going to take over that one. its  ashame and a dent for all surrey jobs having all these empty units and for shopping too. camberley has nowhere to buy cd's now and hmv seem to havea monopoly in woking with the exception of a couple of independents outside the centre!!!!

Indeed - I had a few friends who worked in the Woolworths before it went down. Shops like Woolworths are perfect for students and young people looking for jobs. I think students are in real trouble at the moment - big companies can really afford to be picky when looking at office-job candidates and will go for the experienced individuals first!!
It seems to be one shop after another that are closing down in Camberley. At least we didn't have an M&S food too!!
