| | Black Cherry Fair (16th Jul 14 at 1:14pm UTC) | | To celebrate summer Chertsey held it's annual Black Cherry Fair at Abbey Fields in Chertsey.
With hundreds of stalls to pick from there was something for everybody this year. Stalls included Jewellery, Flowers, tombolas, temporary tattoos + more.
As well as stalls the fair also included a town procession. Where anyone could join in alongside the Egham Town Band and parade vehicles which included Pirate ships, Underwater vans and zoo themed school floats. The prize for the best procession float was given to Pyrcroft Grange and the joint 2nd prize went to Stepgates Community School and St Ann's School. The First Chertsey scouts also won the best club prize during the event.
7,000 people attended this year's fair, which included a WWI theme (To mark this years centenary). The fair was opened by (new foreign secretary) MP Philip Hammond as well as Mayor and Councillor Peter Waddell.
The 96 squadron also attended the event after they were involved in the help effort for the floods (That took place in Chertsey earlier in the year).
The fair has a historic attachment to Surrey after it was originally set up in 1440 when King Henry VI gave the Abbot of Chertsey Abbey the permission to hold and annual fair on St' Ann's Day (26th July).
