NEW BROOKLANDS HOTEL & SPA OPENS (15th Mar 10 at 4:08pm UTC)
weybridge

Last week - on Monday 8th March - Surrey saw the much anticipated, art-deco inspired Brooklands Hotel in Weybridge open its doors, in the heart of the original Brooklands Race Circuit, the birthplace of motor racing.

With the original Brooklands race track literally running through the hotel lobby, Brooklands is the home of one of Britain’s most famous racing heritage circuits - in fact it was the world's first purpose built real race track - and was the scene of the earliest motor racing in the country during the 1920s and 1930’s. In addition it was also a centre for aviation development. The circuit is no longer in operation however there is an extensive museum in which there is a wide range of exhibits from the earliest racing cars and aircraft of the era up to the first prototype Concorde.

Enjoying prime views directly over the Mercedes-Benz World test track, the hotel features a world-class spa with a hot tub overlooking the circuit, vast super-suites, state of the art meeting space and a destination bar and restaurant with food overseen by Nick Bell - formerly at Cecconi’s, Giorgio Locatelli, the Lanesborough Hotel, Daphnes Barbados and Bocca di Lupo.

The new hotel also features a bespoke artwork collection which will wow the most dedicated of collectors, including a huge centre piece wood sculpture which is suspended high up in atrium of the hotel lobby, which has been created exclusively for the hotel by up-and-coming designer Charlie Whinney (V&A, Harvey Nichols and the Dorchester are some of his most recent high-profile clients) A sculptural and interpretive 3D map of the old Brooklands Race Track, as it appeared in the 1930’s, it depicts the flowing lines and competition of motor racing – reflecting the route the cars would have taken back in the 20’s and 30’s.

Dinner, bed and breakfast rates for the whole of March start at just £139.00 per standard room per night.

About the hotel:

The Brooklands Hotel brings a sensational, one-of-a kind property to the market. The much anticipated opening will offer the ultimate combination of contemporary design with a vibrant history. Predominantly glass, this super style-statement of a property has been designed for luxury, while embracing the rich legacy of the Brooklands race circuit. Complete with a destination spa (opening April 2010), 1920’s inspired cocktail bar, brasserie, and state-of-the-art event facilities, the 120 luxury rooms and suites will offer unrivalled luxury within this area of Surrey. Priding itself on personality, individuality, and an unparalleled level of uniqueness, it is just thirty minutes away from central London, 5 minutes from key motorway links to the rest of the UK, and less than 5 minutes from Weybridge mainline train station.

Destination Spa… Seven wet and dry treatment rooms, steam room, sauna and hot tubs, exercise and relaxation areas, meditation room with water beds and light therapy and an exclusive signature treatment menu featuring facials by Lubatti, massages and body treatments by Jane Scrivner and manicures and pedicures by Butter of London.

Art... Bespoke art, much of which is inspired by influences of an earlier era, is visible in all key areas of the hotel. Even the centre piece wood sculpture which is suspended high up in atrium of the hotel lobby, and which has been created exclusively for the hotel by up-and-coming designer Charlie Whinney (V&A, Harvey Nichols and the Dorchester are some of his most recent high-profile clients) has been heavily been influenced by the motor-racing setting. A sculptural and interpretive 3D map of the old Brooklands Race Track, as it appeared in the 1930’s, it depicts the flowing lines and competition of motor racing in a new way – reflecting the route of the cars as several strands racing each other, twisting and flowing as they jostle for position on the track.

Design… From the demarcation in the foyer of the “Solomon Straight” which rolls out before you in riven quartz and honed granite, to the glittering “honeycomb” 1930’s inspired pendants behind reception, it is clear that the interior design observes and is influenced by detail typical of the period and by those who were prolific and influential of style at the time. The spirit and history so relevant to the site has been carefully woven into the developing story of the new Brooklands Hotel. For example Eileen Gray, Van de Rohe, & Le Corbusier each has established and identifiable details so frequently used in their iconic pieces. The button detail apparent to the Barcelona chair has been adapted and exaggerated to create impressive leather wall panels to the back of the reception desk, this over sizing of detail is also an influence in the design of the display unit to the rear of reception taking inspiration from the “rocket” cabinet so recognisable of the period.

Super Suites... Six super-sized one-bedroom suites typifying the curvacious nature of the building and exploiting the incredible panorama and views are located at each end of the building on three floors. The super suite sharing the spa floor not only delivers exceptional space and luxurious furnishings but also boasts; a cloakroom accessed from the impressive entrance lobby, original artwork and a bespoke round daybed within the lounge that swivels to best appreciate every aspect of the views; a private terrace that generously wraps around the full extent of the suites elevation, a state of the art bathroom with separate WC, shower room and a huge free standing bath.
Eight further “super-suites” each covering an area of approx 100m2 include two bedrooms and an exceptional lounge all with full height floor to ceiling windows. Generously proportioned desk’s, dining tables and seating provide an ultimately spacious and desirable place to stay.
